Philip Collier BEng (Hons) CEng MICE MCIHT MEWI

Philip has over 29 years experience as an expert witness and is a recognised name in the profession. Philip is registered as an approved expert in the Sweet and Maxwell’s Directory of Expert witnesses, the UK register of Expert Witnesses and the expert database of APIL. He is a Member of the Expert Witness Institute. Philip has also successfully completed the Bond Solon/Cardiff  University training course and has been awarded their Expert Witness Certificate.

His independence is reflected in the broadly even distribution of instructions received from claimant and defendant solicitors. He now regularly receives instructions to act as the court appointed or agreed single expert. He has given expert testimony at court on many occasions.

Philip’s areas of specialist knowledge are principally Civil Engineering, Building and Construction. In these fields Philip has investigated claims relating to personal injury accidents such as falls from scaffolding or related to the misuse of site equipment, machinery or hand tools. He has dealt with a number of cases relating to damage to structures due to settlement or subsidence caused by tree root action or ground movements. He has dealt with condensation and dampness cases including rising damp and dry rot. He has reported on case of alleged defective or poor quality workmanship. In the construction field Philip has dealt with several criminal prosecutions relating to fatal accidents on construction sites.

As a highways engineer Philip has investigated or reconstructed many road traffic accidents involving vehicle collisions or vehicles losing control on the highway. He has reported on many low speed collisions and accidents on icy roads. He has dealt with personal injury accidents on the public highway, including those related to potholes or uneven surfaces.

In more general work Philip has dealt with accidents in the sports and leisure industries including falls from playground equipment, injury in sports and athletics events, and equestrian accidents. He regularly deals with more general accidents such as those associated with slips trips and falls, manual handling, and a wide range of non specialised accidents and incidents.

Philip has many years of direct experience of work in the construction industry. Employed by national contracting companies Philip gained experience of work on large scale road construction and motorway resurfacing contracts, and of a wide range of heavy civil engineering projects such as bridge building and the construction of sewerage treatment works and warehouse developments. He achieved the role of Site Manager and so gained direct experience in contract management and the control of construction works.
